Meet Ali, Her Brand, + Her Dogs

Meet Ali Harris, a surface pattern designer + muralist. Learn more about her brand, which marries her love of the outdoors, getting dressed up, bold patterns and artwork, and taking care of our planet. And most importantly, meet her dogs.

    Ali

    Surface Pattern Designer + Muralist

I have been a maker my whole life and started learning watercolor in 2015, which began my drive for developing my art skills. I dreamt of seeing my artwork on outdoor gear during the summer of 2019, when I spent a couple afternoons each week paddle boarding at a local reservoir (My Daydreamer collection was inspired by this). In 2022, I began making that dream real, and I've been working towards it ever since. I find my inspiration from nature; I love all flowers and plants and the gorgeous red rock desert landscapes of Southern Utah. When I'm not creating, I love paddle boarding and yoga (especially combining the two), reading, history, roller skating, hiking, and exploring off-road trails with my husband, Derek.

Lab + Collie Mix, Silent Food Theif

Meru was born in 2017 and has been with Derek and me since 2019. She loves belly rubs, eating all the (edible) things, playing with smaller, less scary dogs, and loathes bikes and motorcycles. Meru likes to lay in "tunnels," like under the kitchen table, or behind our recliners. She loves playing in the snow and can steal food off the kitchen counter without making a peep. She is such a sweetheart and definitely knew Maggie was the boss. She is a velcro dog who has to stick with her people, and during thunderstorms she turns into a 100 lb. lap dog. Meru sort of likes paddle boarding with me—in that, she likes being on the board with me more than she likes not being with me, but she'll dump me in the water if we get too close to shore.

  • Ali is posing (sort of) with her German Shepherd mix dog, Maggie. Maggie is busy exploring, so she's trying to get away.

    Maggie

    German Shepherd Mix, The Boss

Maggie was born around 2012. Derek found her abandoned on the side of the road as a puppy and took her in. She was quite the trouble maker as a puppy (ate a lot of shoes). Sadly, Maggie crossed the rainbow bridge in February of 2024, and we still miss her so much. Even as an old girl, she still loved to go exploring, even though she didn’t get around as fast as she used to. She had the softest fur, loved meeting new people and dogs, told Derek and me very insistently when she wanted treats (and Meru was always there for back up), and had the grizzliest sounding growl to express when she wanted some personal space. The vacuum was her nemesis, and she loved whacking her tail on things to get attention.

OwlLeeHarris Design Studio Brand Story

Where in the world did I come up with the name OwlLeeHarris.Designs? And yes, you read that right; 2 Ls, 2 Es, + 2 Rs.

When I was growing up, it was common for my family members + even some of my friends to call me Al. When I was in high school, I developed a great love for owls, so my younger brother started calling me Owl instead of Al. Including an owl is also a great way to tie in the outdoor element of my brand.

I also have a history degree and considered becoming a professional genealogist for a while. The “Lee” in owlleeharris comes from my middle name, which was given to me in honor of my mom’s dad, Lee. Using my middle name after my grandpa is a nice nod to both my heritage + one of my other great passions, history + genealogy. It also just so happens that “owllee” sounds a whole lot like “Ali,” so the brand name OwlLeeHarris Design Studio was born.

Just remember. 2 Ls, 2 Es, + 2 Rs.
